The AI/ML Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and deploying artificial intelligence solutions tailored to solve real business problems.
The goal is to find an adequate solution for the problem, which can range from simple sets of rules, such as specialized systems, to complex deep learning models, computer vision, LLMs, or optimization algorithms. Sometimes, the best solution will be ML-driven. At other times, it might be something simpler.
It is expected scientific level of rigor, with thorough documentation and reproducible experiments, which evidence the effectiveness of each solution. It is also expected to stay updated with AI advancements and effectively gather and incorporate domain expertise into AI development.
Its solutions are expected to be developed end-to-end, from experimentation to deployment, meeting software engineering high standards. An engineer also knows when to apply an existing solution instead of developing a new one, accelerating value delivery.
The AI/ML Engineer is, above all, a skillful problem-solver, and a core piece of all products developed by Shape Digital.
Responsibilities:
- Explore and find opportunities for AI-powered solutions on the industrial sector.
- Statistically understand and describe physical phenomena.
- Develop and deploy advanced machine learning models that can be generalized and replicated at scale.
- Research and experiment with novel AI techniques in collaboration with maintenance teams to solve complex industrial challenges.
- Write high-quality, scalable and maintainable code while following best engineering practices.
- Lead technical projects and initiatives, driving the development of innovative AI solutions that align with business objectives.
- Lead and mentor junior team members, fostering their growth and ensuring the adoption of best practices in AI development.
- Review and ensure the quality of AI solutions developed by the team, maintaining high standards and providing constructive feedback.
- Stay current with the latest AI research and implement state-of-the-art methods when applicable.
- Proactively identify technical bottlenecks and propose innovative approaches to overcome them.
- Document experiments, solutions, and learnings to ensure reproducibility and knowledge sharing across the team.
Requirements:
- A degree in "STEM" such as Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or Statistics.
- Proficiency in Machine Learning, Python, and SQL.
- Experience working with time-series models.
- Strong experience with Python libraries such as Scikit-Learn, TensorFlow, Keras, and PyTorch.
- Advanced methods: additional specialization in an advanced area/domain (e.g., NLP, RNNs).
- Advanced/Fluent English.
- Science: Consistent experience applying scientific methods and rigorous research principles in academic and/or professional settings. Some track record of translating research into practical business applications.
- Math and statistics: Strong experience applying probability theory, descriptive and inferential statistics, and linear algebra fundamentals to support data analysis and model development.
- ML techniques: Deep understanding of machine learning theory and ability to design novel approaches when needed. Demonstrated experience in selecting and implementing appropriate ML solutions for complex business problems. Strong background in deep learning, reinforcement learning, or other advanced ML techniques.
- Software: Good knowledge of software engineering principles, design patterns, and best coding practices that apply to implement complex AI systems that meet high standards of quality, scalability, and maintainability.
- Code: Proficiency in writing modern, clean, maintainable, and scalable code in Python. Ability to review and improve code quality across projects and mentor others in writing better code.
- Cloud Solutions and AI infrastructure: Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and AI pipelines in production environments.
