Academic Coordinator – Portuguese for Foreigners

This role is fully dedicated to coordinating our in-person Portuguese courses at our school in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro. As our in-person Pedagogical Coordinator, you won’t manage our online courses.

Responsibilities

As our Academic Coordinator, you will report directly to the School Director and take the lead on our academic excellence. Your mission includes:

Teaching & Methodology

• Coordinate exclusively the academic operations of our in-person courses at our Copacabana school.
• Maintain and strengthen our Funlearning methodology — fun, fun, and even more fun!
• Ensure all teachers follow our learning style, class structure, and school guidelines.
• Teach classes when needed — you won’t stay behind a desk all day!
• Be responsible for the RioLIVE! Activities.

Teacher Supervision & Team Growth

• Supervise, support, and guide our teacher team.
• Train new teachers and help everyone grow professionally.
• Recruit new teachers when needed to maintain a strong, motivated team.
• Keep team morale high — you’ll be our very own Captain America!

Academic Planning & Organization

• Organize class schedules, group structures, RioLIVE! Activities, and weekly content planning.
• Prepare and send class content to students with precision and good vibes.
• Review and update our study plans and didactic materials so everything stays fresh and aligned with our brand.

Student Support & Success

• Follow students from day one until the end of their course.
• Ensure total student satisfaction — our students are our absolute priority!
• Help students with any pedagogical questions or challenges they may have.

Collaboration With Other Areas

(You won’t be the main person responsible, but you’ll help us shine together!)

• Support strategies to help attract new students.
• Contribute to social media and blog content related to teaching and Portuguese learning.
• Help answer questions from potential students on our website or social media.
• Participate in strategic decision-making — your voice truly matters here.

Requirements

Languages

• Native Portuguese speaker.
• Fluent or advanced English (you’ll have an interview in English — be ready!)

Professional Skills

• Experience coordinating teams or academic activities.
• Experience teaching groups and private classes (including executives/managers).
• Bachelor’s degree preferred in Pedagogy, Languages, Administration, Tourism, Marketing, or related areas.
• Excellent attention to detail and strong control of academic routines. You must be comfortable supervising teachers, ensuring daily duties are completed, and guiding the team with confidence and kindness — even when firmness is needed.
• Strong organizational skills — we’re total organization nerds here!
• Problem-solving mindset and ability to make decisions confidently.
• Comfortable working with goals and performance metrics.

Technical Skills

• Solid computer skills: PowerPoint, email, Google tools, YouTube, social media, etc.
• Ability to prepare and edit class materials digitally.
• Knowledge of business vocabulary in English and Portuguese.

Personal Qualities

• Dynamic, cheerful, efficient, and responsible.
• Great at keeping team motivation high.
