Overview of the Role
The professional in this role will provide Level 3 support for all Oracle databases and their respective servers, ensuring reliability, security, and performance from development through to production. The position requires constant coordination with internal and third-party developers in order to drive upcoming enhancements and continuous improvement initiatives.
Projects & Governance
- Gather and document technical and functional requirements for system enhancements and upgrades.
- Drive the change-request process, ensuring alignment between business expectations and technical standards.
- Lead technical testing to validate updates and guarantee smooth deployment into production.
- Own and execute assigned initiatives from launch to completion, tracking progress and deadlines.
- Identify gaps, inefficiencies, or weaknesses in the current database ecosystem and propose actionable improvements.
- Enforce project norms and standards, ensuring consistency across all deliverables.
- Liaise with stakeholders and vendors, providing timely and transparent status reports.
- Proactively escalate risks or delays that could impact production stability.
- Troubleshoot and resolve live system issues, including:
o application-performance bottlenecks,
o high memory/CPU utilization,
o query tuning and index optimization.
- Assess and implement alternative solutions or workarounds to minimize operational impact during incidents.
- Conduct root-cause analyses and deliver permanent fixes for recurring problems.
- Monitor infrastructure:
o availability and disk-space utilization,
o alert logs, backup logs, and network logs.
- Manage Oracle application databases:
o software installation and patch management,
o data import/export and ETL processes,
o custom report development.
- Perform routine DBA activities:
o backup and recovery,
o user access and security,
o proactive health checks and tuning.
- Support global teams located in different countries on database inquiries and incidents.
Qualifications
Must Have
- 5+ years of proven experience as Oracle Database Administrator in enterprise environments.
- Hands-on expertise with Oracle 12c and/or 19c (required).
- Strong performance-optimization skills: index tuning, query optimization, and troubleshooting.
- Solid command of PL/SQL and multidimensional data-modeling concepts.
- Experience with database lifecycle management: data cleanup, historical purging, and automation.
- Involvement in IT infrastructure projects, planning, and sizing.
- Fluent English written and spoken.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, highly demanding global context.
Nice to Have
- Experience with PostgreSQL or MS SQL databases.
- Implementation of IaC and automation using Ansible, Jenkins, Chef or Terraform.
- Visualization skills with Power BI or PowerQuery.
- Previous exposure to Clarity or equivalent PMO tooling.
- ITIL certification or other observability certifications.
- Global and international DEV + OPS context
- Collaboration with middleware, network, development, and finance departments
- Hybrid working model in Lisbon, with a strong tendency to operate mainly on-site during the first months for integration and training.
