This is a hybrid role. This model requires the ability to work in a hybrid mode from one of our offices in São Paulo (2 times/ week or 8 days/ month) or Porto Alegre (3 times/ week or 12 days/ month). Our WFN culture is designed to foster in-person innovation, collaboration, and connection with team members local and visiting from other global offices.

The Opportunity

We are hiring for an enthusiastic Senior Backend Engineer. You will be responsible for designing and building scalable and resilient backend systems that power our applications. Leveraging your expertise in cloud technologies, databases, and API development, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver robust solutions that meet the needs of our clients and users.

We understand our responsibility to create a diverse, equitable, and inclusive place within the tech industry, while pushing to make our industry more representative. Because of this responsibility, we need candidates who value diversity and inclusion through their work, team collaboration, or mentorship. So in your cover letter, we encourage you to reflect on diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality software with confidence by applying critical thinking to products, requirements, and development processes.

  • Partner closely with clients and internal stakeholders to influence technical decisions and align solutions with business goals.

  • Stay up to date with software engineering best practices, tools, and frameworks across multiple languages and ecosystems.

  • Bring extensive professional programming experience (typically 10–12+ years) to design and evolve robust, scalable solutions.

  • Understand and apply different software architectures, adapting and composing solutions to solve complex problems in a sustainable and reusable way.

  • Mentor and coach team members, helping them grow and align toward shared technical and delivery outcomes.

  • Navigate challenging conversations by providing constructive, actionable feedback to both teams and stakeholders.

  • Identify technical and process obstacles to ensure quality, improve user experience, and evolve how software is built and maintained.

  • Demonstrate self-awareness of limitations while remaining curious, open to learning, and receptive to feedback.

  • Help guide teams through changing priorities with clarity, resilience, and positive energy.

  • Communicate complex technical concepts in a clear and accessible way to multidisciplinary audiences.

  • Design and develop 12-factor applications that scale efficiently in modern cloud environments.

  • Work with relational and non-relational databases, designing efficient data models and optimizing data access patterns.

  • Design, implement, and maintain well-documented, reliable APIs consumed by multiple clients and services.

  • Troubleshoot issues in existing systems, identify root causes, and independently implement effective solutions.

Qualifications

  • 5–7+ years of experience building data-driven web applications.

  • Strong proficiency in .NET (C#) and/or Node.js for backend development.

  • Experience working with additional languages such as Python, JavaScript/TypeScript.

  • Solid understanding of RESTful APIs, microservices architectures, and cloud platforms (AWS experience is a plus).

  • Experience designing and operating backend services in production environments.

  • Strong understanding of relational databases (RDBMS) such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, or Oracle, with exposure to NoSQL databases considered a plus.

  • Familiarity with version control systems (Git/GitHub or similar).

  • Experience working in cross-functional teams, collaborating with designers, product managers, and other engineers.

  • Ability to write clear, maintainable, and well-documented code following industry standards.

  • Strong understanding of production systems, monitoring, and support considerations.

  • Comfortable working both collaboratively and independently, with strong time management skills.

  • Excellent communication skills, able to interact effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Commitment to continuous learning and ongoing improvement.

  • Experience with automated testing practices and quality-focused development.

  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.

P.S. In an ideal world, you hit all the bullet points we listed, but hey — we know that’s a lot of bullets. If you feel confident about a good amount of them, we can ramp you up on the rest.

Bonus Points

  • Experience with cloud-native architectures, automation, or DevOps practices.

  • Background in systems modernization or multi-language environments.

  • Exposure to enterprise-scale systems or high-traffic applications.

  • Excellent communication skills with client representatives
