Construction Manager or Engineer

For Subcontractor Defaults & Construction Claims

The right individual for this role possesses deep experience in the business of construction, having most likely worked in construction management-type roles for major contractors on large, high-profile projects. You possess sharp analytical, relational, and other construction claim diagnostic skills, and you can be relied upon for expert determinations of both direct and indirect costs when subcontractors default. You understand the nuances of delays and their impacts, you’re familiar with all of the various subs and their dependencies, you can recognize stages of work completion, spot inefficiencies, etc.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Construction management, engineering, or similar degree
  • Minimum 8 years construction management experience
  • At least 4 of those years specifically in the area of construction risk management, claims, etc.
  • Well versed in issues relating to contractor performance and job completion
  • Prior estimating, cost control, risk, project and subcontractor management experience extremely beneficial
  • Experience with scheduling, critical path, project controls and productivity analyses also beneficial
  • Exemplary track record of critical thinking and professional service, reporting progress and making recommendations to management, supporting clients, and resolving claims efficiently
  • Understand the (investigative and other functional) various differences between surety performance bonds and SDI (subcontractor default insurance)
  • Superior spreadsheet skills
  • Superior communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to provide expert testimony in court when needed

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review loss claims for contract/policy adherence and perform cost analyses
  • Via document reviews (bid documents, invoices, change orders, etc.) and your own spreadsheets, establish with certainty the degree of accuracy and thoroughness presented; recommend appropriate actions and payments
  • Advise insureds on required documentation and protocol in order to mitigate risks, expedite loss payouts and strategically manage coverage
  • Identify conditions and work sequences preceding a loss
  • Assess fault and responsibility
  • Quantify work delays and impacts
  • Provide efficient claim analysis and superior 360-degree service to insureds, principals, carriers, and sureties
  • Ensure all information and documentation is captured in online claims management system
  • Liaise between company management, carrier and insured
