An IT Support / Junior Developer is a hybrid role that combines technical support responsibilities with entry-level software development tasks. This position is common in smaller companies or startups where one person helps maintain IT systems while also assisting with coding projects.
IT Support Responsibilities
System & User Support
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, and network issues
- Assist employees with technical problems (email, printers, apps, etc.)
- Install, configure, and maintain computers and devices
Infrastructure Maintenance
- Monitor servers, backups, and system performance
- Manage user accounts, access permissions, and security settings
- Update software, patches, and antivirus protection
Documentation & Training
- Create user guides and technical documentation
- Train staff on basic IT systems and best practices
Junior Developer Responsibilities
Software Development Support
- Assist senior developers with coding tasks
- Write, test, and debug simple programs or scripts
- Help maintain websites, applications, or internal tools
Testing & Maintenance
- Fix bugs and improve existing software
- Perform software testing and quality checks
- Document code changes and updates
Learning & Collaboration
- Participate in team meetings and code reviews
- Continuously learn programming languages and tools
Required Skills
- Basic programming knowledge (e.g., Python, JavaScript, or Java)
- Understanding of operating systems, networking, and hardware
- Problem-solving and troubleshooting ability

Typical Qualifications
