About us:

WEX is an innovative payments and technology company at the forefront of a rapidly evolving landscape. We aim to simplify the business of running a business, empowering our customers to focus on what they love while reducing complexity and worry. As we strive to build a unified, world-class user experience, we are embracing emerging technologies—particularly AI, machine learning, and generative models—to reimagine our products and services from the customer’s perspective.

About the Role:

At WEX, we’re not just a payments and technology company—we are pioneers on a mission to simplify the business of running a business.

Our Corporate Payments product space is evolving fast, and we recognize that the traditional “handoff” between design and dev teams is changing. We are looking for a UX Design Engineer, a hybrid creative and technical powerhouse, who doesn't just visualize the future of our experiences but helps us build them.

You will join a multi-disciplinary team of designers and researchers to help create and deliver world-class fintech products. You will be responsible for designing customer experiences, user testing, pitching ideas, and creating workflows, visual designs, and prototypes. You will use an AI-assisted coding tool to accelerate output, then refine the code and UX details so engineers can translate it into production.

How you'll make an impact:

  • Prototype in Figma Make and Cursor:Act as a bridge between design and engineering by using AI-assisted design & prototyping tools to accelerate ideation and delivery.

  • Work in GitHub:Maintain prototype work in a repo (clear structure, runnable setup, repeatable demos).

  • Design for real interaction:Show key flows, states, edge cases, and constraints with mock data.

  • Accessibility + responsiveness:Ensure prototypes include keyboard basics, semantic structure, and responsive layouts.

  • AI-assisted workflow:Use a text-to-code tool to generate a starting point, then edit and improve the output.

  • Pair with product + engineering:Iterate quickly based on feedback and evolving requirements.

  • Discovery + structure: Contribute to problem framing, IA, and research synthesis as teams define the new experience.

  • Usability testing:Plan and run lightweight usability sessions, then adjust prototypes based on findings.

  • Design system alignment:Use internal shadcn-based components and keep UI consistent with WEX standards.

Experience you'll bring (Must-Haves):

  • Strong experienceof UX/Product Design experience.

  • Ability to build and edit frontend prototypes using industry standard design tools, like Figma.

  • Experience using at least one AI coding tool(Cursor is a strong plus).

  • Comfort moving fast without relying on pixel-perfect static files.

  • Strong collaboration habits with engineers and product partners.

  • Ability to operate well when requirements are still forming (you clarify, propose, test, and iterate).

Desired qualifications & experiences (Nice-to-Haves):

  • Cursor experience.

  • Familiarity with shadcn/ui patterns and theming.

  • Basic understanding of component composition and state (enough to express interaction logic cleanly).

  • Past experience running usability tests end-to-end.

2–3 case studiesshowing how you:

  • Defined the problem (inputs, constraints, tradeoffs).

  • Designed the flow using or with IA (before/after or rationale).

  • Validated with users (what you tested, what changed).

  • Demonstrated interaction (prototype video or live demo).

Code-based prototypes are a bonus, not required. If you have them, include:

  • A link to a repo or a short walkthrough video of the prototype running.
