UTEC is looking to add a Senior Surveyor to the team. The Senior Surveyor is UTEC’s senior representative on a watch reporting to Party Chief or senior representative on vessel and must ensure that all work is conducted in the best interests of UTEC and the Client. He/She must thoroughly understand work specifications, project requirements and client objectives, and is responsible for the safe, efficient and timely execution of, as well as Quality Assurance for the project.

The role is based offshore and will require travel to support UTEC operations, periods of onshore support may also be required working either remotely or from UTEC offices/workshops.

The successful candidates will be based in Brazil.

Duties

  • Supervise survey operations ensuring safe working practices at all times and with due regard to contractual requirements, scope of work, procedures and regulations

  • Manage mobilization and demobilization activities with regard to safety of personnel and assets

  • Ensure all systems are functioning in compliance with contractual requirements, project procedures and company procedures to effectively conduct the scope of work

  • Ensure collection, collation, QC and distribution of all survey data relating to the scope of work as per project procedures and company procedures

  • Advise onshore management, company and client representatives when deviation from the approved procedure is necessary and record through the Management of Change Procedure

  • Compile operational / field reporting in a concise manner and in accordance with project procedures, client specifications and company procedures

  • Complete final reporting and data transfer / backup in accordance with accordance with project procedures, client specifications and company procedures

  • Effectively communicate with client representatives and company representatives onshore

  • Ensure all personnel in the offshore team understand their roles and responsibilities

  • Conduct personnel performance reviews/appraisals for your direct reports and provide specific performance data/feedback to supervisors of non-direct reports assigned to your projects

  • Actively participate and lead by example in the Company’s Quality and HSE systems and procedures

  • Understand and comply with UTEC policies and procedures

  • Be prepared to “Stop the Job” in the event that yourself, others or equipment may be exposed to injury / damage

  • Comply with all Health and Safety instructions from UTEC

  • Correctly handle all Health and Safety equipment

  • Recognize and help control HSE hazards where applicable

  • Report all Health, Safety and Environment incidents to management, including near misses, unsafe acts and hazards

  • Utilize the Safety Observation Sheet (SOS) reporting system

  • Help generate, update and review risk assessments and job safety analysis, where applicable

  • Understand emergency plans, alarms and actions required in the event of an emergency

  • Participate in relevant HSE meetings and “tool box talks” within respective department

  • Demonstrate conversance with the Project HSE Plan where applicable to this position/department

  • Participate in accident investigations where required

  • Assume all employee responsibilities listed in the Workplace Safety and Health Act

  • Comply with return-to-work and / or rehabilitation program(s)

  • Adhere to the ‘UTEC Way 12 Safety and Quality Principles’ at all times


  • Required

  • Bilingual in Portuguese and English, strongly preferred

  • Education in Geomatics, Surveying Science

  • Relevant industry experience or military/academic experience in survey related discipline

  • Experience in Industry Standard Survey Packages required

  • Satisfactory completion of the competence criteria for Surveyor Grade I

  • Nominally 24 months experience, including 200 operational days offshore as a Surveyor Grade I

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel is essential

  • Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others

  • Ability to perform tasks and achieve results with a high degree of accuracy and precision
